You guys are getting a lot of really unwarranted hate for this article. I agree with many of the sentiments that you could very easily have done things in such a way as to more than break even on this tour (and still have everyone sleeping in beds).

I have also been in the position several of your detractors have, of being a completely unsupported indie band sleeping on floors, humping our own equipment, and living on a per diem WITHOUT drawing any salary. You do it for the experiemce. the music, the art, the fans... almost never for the money. We did all that in a world where YouTube didn't exist, selling our CDs and merch at shows and at stores, so there were not a lot of "content creator" profits to be made.

I think you sounded self-aware enough about your choices and tradeoffs that you did NOT come across as whiny as many people accuse you of. But by today's standards - not those of 20 years ago - you have most definitely "made it" to a level many artists never will. Embrace that!
